MCCL members making a
difference
MCCL
has always been a leader in promoting protective legislation at the
capitol. We have been successful because of our strong grassroots
support.
An important part of that
support has been our members influence in electing lawmakers who support
the pro-life view.
PACs are about pooling
resources so they can be focused and make a real difference on the
issues important to its contributors.
Here is how you can make a difference. |
GOP presidential ticket energizes pro-lifers
Pro-life citizens are ecstatic over
Republican Sen. John McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his
running mate, making his the most pro-life presidential ticket in American
history.
Winning pro-life platform
The Republican Party Platform Committee met a
week before the Republican National Convention (RNC) and adopted the
strongest pro-life platform in history. The finalized platform language
strongly opposes abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide, and calls for "a
ban on human cloning and a ban on the creation of or experimentation on
human embryos for research purposes." The platform also states: "Faithful to
the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence, we assert the
inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn
child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."
In stark contrast to what the Republicans
adopted, the Democratic Party platform states, in part, that the party
"strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to
choose a safe and legal abortion." The Democrats don’t even advocate for
abortions to be rare as they once did, abandoning its "safe, legal, and
rare" rhetoric. Fortunately, there is still a party that, like the majority
of Americans, respects human life and will work to protect it.
Protecting life not above McCain’s ‘pay
grade’
The RNC was a time of getting back to basics.
While the Democrats selected the most pro-abortion pairing in history,
Senators Barack Obama [link to Obama page] and Joe Biden, pro-lifers were
able to secure a McCain-Palin ticket most respectful to human life. A number
of speakers enthused the crowd, like former Sen. Fred Thompson telling the
convention crowd, "We need a president who doesn’t think that the protection
of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade," resulting in
thunderous applause.
The Republicans nominated McCain and Palin at
the convention in St. Paul, and both graciously accepted. McCain [link to
John McCain PAC page] and Palin have both pledged to be unwavering friends
to unborn children and other vulnerable persons. What’s more, America
learned a lot about the two candidates’ pro-life convictions during the RNC.
Living examples of pro-life convictions
Both McCain and Palin have lived the pro-life
message. Both have a special-needs child who they love and treat with
dignity. Palin has five children. Her youngest was born in April 2008 after
being diagnosed with Down syndrome while still in the womb. Some estimates
say nine out of 10 unborn babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted
for that reason, but Palin and her husband chose life for their son, who she
describes as "a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig."
Palin’s 17-year-old daughter, Bristol,
revealed that she is pregnant and will marry her child’s father. Alaska has
no informed consent or parental involvement laws, so Bristol easily could
have chosen to abort her child secretly (Anchorage has seven abortionists).
With a baby son with Down syndrome and a teenage daughter facing an
unexpected pregnancy, Palin has demonstrated her pro-life convictions in
trying personal circumstances.
Pro-lifers have reason to celebrate. Not only
did the Republican Party approve the strongest pro-life platform ever, but
we have a solidly pro-life team in Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin.
