MCCL members making a difference

MCCL has always been a leader in promoting protective legislation at the capitol.  We have been successful because of our strong grassroots support.

An important part of that support has been our members influence in electing lawmakers who support the pro-life view.

PACs are about pooling resources so they can be focused and make a real difference on the issues important to its contributors.

Here is how you can make a difference.

MCCL’s Political Action Committees: Helping elect pro-life candidates

Key to MCCL’s successful legislative activities is the ability to help elect lawmakers who put protecting human life uppermost on their priority list. To ensure elected officials who will support pro-life legislation are in place, MCCL was the first state pro-life organization in the nation to form political action committees that actively support pro-life candidates for public office at both the state and federal levels. MCCL’s PACs have a reputation for delivering the pro-life vote.

What is a PAC?

A political action committee (PAC) is formed to raise money for political activity. According to state and federal laws, PAC funds are required to be completely separate from other organization funds. PACs are required to adhere to numerous state and federal guidelines, including strict reporting requirements. All donations for MCCL’s PACs are gathered entirely by voluntary contributions.

MCCL’s PACs are an integral force in the political arena, enabling pro-lifers to pool their resources to directly aid pro-life candidates.

MCCL has separate federal, state PACs

The MCCL Federal PAC was formed in 1980 to provide monetary contributions and consulting aid to assist pro-life candidates for national office. It was the first pro-life PAC in the nation and has been instrumental in building the pro-life majority in the U.S. Congress.

In 1982, the MCCL State PAC was formed to aid candidates for state and local offices. The MCCL State PAC was the first pro-life PAC formed in Minnesota.

MCCL PACs known for effectiveness

MCCL’s PACs have been highly effective in their efforts to help elect pro-life candidates, demonstrating that it is a distinct advantage for candidates to be pro-life. Among other accomplishments in the 2006 election, MCCL’s PACs helped deliver a 7 percent pro-life increment (advantage) on the issue of abortion for U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann and Gov. Tim Pawlenty. The MCCL State PAC was also instrumental in the shocking defeat of then-Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson after he single-handedly killed the Abortion Regulation Act.

Each election cycle, MCCL’s PACs endorse and actively campaign on behalf of pro-life candidates for the state legislature and Congress, as well as candidates for statewide office. Additionally, the MCCL State PAC also has been successful in helping elect pro-lifers to local offices.
